Balm Real Estate and Wimauma, FL Homes
A need for a town between Turkey Creek and Bradenton was the brainchild of Seaboard Air Line Captain C.H. Davis. He named this quaint little town in 1902 by taking the first letters of the names of his three daughters - Willie, Maude, and Mary. Wimauma later became known as Lake Wimauma. The town has grown steadily since it became officially incorporated in 1925.
The rural community of Balm real estate is just a short 18 miles southeast of Tampa. Historians believe the town was named by a resident who was inspired by the area’s beautiful calm views. At the present time, Balm is known for its agricultural industry and it’ holds a small array of Barnum & Bailey’s circus animals.
The proximity of the Seaboard Air Line Railway opened up the area to sawmills, turpentine processing, farming and other agricultural-based industries. The local post office was opened in 1902 and a two-story brick school building was constructed in the 1910s. The town was officially incorporated in 1925, and has since experienced substantial growth.
It is said that the community received its name after a resident was inspired by the area’s beautiful, calm view. Growth was boosted in the area by the nearby Seaboard Air Line Railway. Early settlers in the area constructed a school, church, and a general store. Since the 1960s, citrus has dominated the area’s agricultural industry. The area is also home to many tropical fish farms and a small holding area for Barnum and Bailey's circus animals. Homes in Balm and Wimauma, FL real estate reflect the rich history of this wonderful town.
