Gibsonton Real Estate

Entertainment and History collide in Gibsonton! This southern Hillsborough County was home to the Great American Sideshows (the second act or entertainment venue that accompanied the circus, carnivals, or fairs). Many who took part on the Sideshows made Gibsonton real estate home during the offseason.

Gibsonton was the place where many people who traveled the sideshow circuit made their home during the off season. Today, the legacy of what they left behind remains. Though the area may seem little more than a speck on the map, it is marked by a giant’s boot that serves as the area’s landmark. Gibsonton was home to many traveling acts, and was featured on national television when Jerry Springer filmed on location in 1997. Unfortunately, time has passed and many of the entertainers are no longer living; however, there are many structures that still bear testament to their existence.

The area was home to Percilla the Monkey Girl, the Anatomical Wonder, the Lobster Boy, and Siamese twin sisters who ran a fruit stand. At one time, Gibsonton was the only post office with a counter for dwarves. Aside from the agreeable winter climate, Gibsonton offered unique circus zoning laws that allowed residents to keep elephants and circus trailers on their front lawns.
