Ybor City and Palm River Homes

In Ybor City cobblestone streets and huge old cigar factory buildings make up the historic and legendary town of this historic city.  One of only three National Historic Landmark Districts in the State of Florida, Ybor City was founded in 1886 by Vicente Martinez Ybor who moved his cigar manufacturing operation to the Tampa area from Key West. By 1900, the area was known as "the cigar capital of the world". The industry reached its height in the 1920s with hundreds of millions of hand-rolled cigars produced annually.

History documents that in 1950s, the cigar factories and other Ybor real estate were gone and Ybor City became a ghost of its prior greatness. Much real estate in Ybor City was for sale at this time.  The area was revitalized in the late 1990s with an explosion of bars and restaurants as well as the homes in Ybor City. It now attracts large numbers of visitors due to the wide variety of shops, restaurants, clubs, and galleries. Most of Ybor City’s historic buildings have been rehabilitated and now house a large portion of the district’s vibrant businesses. In keeping with its vibrant past, Ybor City is now home to a number of annual festivals like Guavaween at the Gasparilla Knight Parade.  Much of the Ybor real estate reflects the history of this wonderful area of Tampa Bay.
